The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued strict guidelines on biometric verification and fingerprint scanning for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). These measures are aimed at ensuring transparency, preventing fraud, and maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
JAMB emphasized that biometric verification remains a mandatory requirement for both registration and entry into the examination hall. Candidates who fail biometric verification will not be granted access to sit for the examination, regardless of other documentation they may possess. This step is part of JAMB’s broader effort to eliminate impersonation and other forms of malpractice that have plagued previous examination cycles.
One of the key issues addressed in the guidelines is the use of henna, also known as ‘Laali’ or ‘Lale’, on candidates’ fingers. JAMB warned that henna designs can significantly obstruct the fingerprint scanning process, causing delays and potential disqualification during both registration and the examination. The Board further noted that candidates attempting to remove henna using harsh chemicals may inadvertently damage their finger whorls, rendering biometric verification impossible.
Candidates are therefore strongly advised to avoid applying henna or any similar substance on their fingers before and during the registration and examination periods. JAMB stressed that the biometric verification system is highly sensitive and relies on accurate fingerprint recognition to verify candidates’ identities.
Additionally, candidates must ensure that their fingers remain clean and free from injuries or scars that could interfere with the scanning process. Any damage to the fingerprint whorls may render biometric verification impossible, and such candidates will not be allowed to proceed with the examination.
JAMB also encouraged candidates to adhere to the guidelines for profile creation by sending a text message containing their NIN (space) followed by their 11-digit NIN number to 55019. This step ensures a smooth registration process and reduces delays caused by errors or incomplete information.
The Board reiterated that successful biometric verification is non-negotiable and remains the primary gateway for candidates to access their examination questions. Without it, candidates will not be allowed to proceed, regardless of the circumstances.
In conclusion, JAMB called on all prospective candidates to take the biometric guidelines seriously and adhere strictly to the advisory on henna use and fingerprint protection. The Board remains committed to delivering a transparent, fair, and efficient examination process in 2025, ensuring that every candidate has a seamless experience from registration to examination day.
