JAMB Confirms January Start for 2025 UTME Registration: What Candidates Need to Know

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially confirmed that registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence in January 2025. While the exact date for the opening of the registration portal is yet to be announced, JAMB has assured candidates and stakeholders that extensive preparations have been made to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process.

In its recent announcement, JAMB emphasized that the upcoming registration exercise will reflect the insights and improvements derived from the 2024 UTME review. These improvements include generating a sufficient pool of examination items, accrediting all required Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers, and implementing refined processes for result management.

To prepare candidates for the registration process, JAMB has encouraged them to create their profiles in advance by sending a text message: NIN (space) followed by their 11-digit NIN number to 55019. This proactive step will streamline the registration process and prevent unnecessary delays once the portal opens.

Additionally, JAMB reiterated its warning about the use of henna (Laali or Lale) on candidates’ fingers. The application of henna can obstruct the biometric verification process, which is a mandatory requirement for both registration and examination entry. The Board warned that attempts to remove henna using harsh chemicals could damage the finger whorls, making biometric verification impossible. Candidates are therefore strongly advised to keep their ten fingers clean and free from any substances that might interfere with fingerprint scanning.

JAMB assured candidates that the 2025 UTME registration process will be more seamless than ever, thanks to the robust measures implemented to address previous challenges. Candidates are urged to adhere strictly to all guidelines and directives provided by the Board to ensure their successful participation in the examination.

As the registration date draws closer, JAMB remains committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and excellence throughout the entire UTME process. Candidates are encouraged to stay updated through official JAMB communication channels to avoid misinformation and ensure a stress-free registration experience.
