JAMB Provides Guidelines for Generating Profile Code Ahead of 2025 UTME Registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued detailed instructions for generating a profile code in preparation for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration. The Board shared the guidelines via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on January 15, 2025, emphasizing the importance of accurate and secure procedures.

To generate a profile code, candidates must first obtain their National Identification Number (NIN) from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). Using a retrievable phone number that has not been previously registered on JAMB’s platform, candidates should send a text message in the following format:

  • Type NIN in capital letters.
  • Leave a space.
  • Enter the 11-digit NIN number.
  • Send the message to either 55019 or 66019.

For example: NIN 23456789012 sent to 55019 or 66019.

In a follow-up post, JAMB advised candidates under 18 years to use a phone number belonging to a close relative, such as a parent, to ensure easy retrieval in case the SIM card is damaged or lost. “The card is your unique identifier with the Board and must not get lost at any point in time. If it happens, retrieve it as soon as possible because it cannot be replaced thereafter,” JAMB stated.

Candidates are urged to follow these steps carefully to avoid complications during the registration process. The Board reiterated that the profile code is essential for completing the 2025 UTME registration and must be safeguarded at all times.
