The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced that registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence on 31 January 2025. The board also introduced a Mock Trial specifically designed for underage students who are not yet eligible to sit for the main examination.
This announcement was made by JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, during a stakeholder meeting with media executives on Tuesday. A copy of the presentation was obtained by PREMIUM TIMES.
Key Dates for UTME 2025
- UTME Registration: Begins on 31 January 2025 and ends on 8 March 2025.
- Direct Entry (DE) Registration: Starts on 10 March 2025 and closes on 7 April 2025.
An advertisement detailing all necessary information for registration will be published and aired on radio and television stations on 29 January 2025, two days before the registration portal opens.
Introduction of Mock Trial for Underage Students
In a significant development, JAMB introduced a Mock Trial for underage students who are below the age of 16 and therefore ineligible to register for the UTME. This initiative aims to help younger candidates prepare for the actual examination once they reach the eligible age.
Last year, the Federal Ministry of Education set the minimum age for UTME registration and admission into tertiary institutions at 16 years. The Mock Trial is designed to familiarize underage students with the examination format and build their confidence ahead of their eventual participation.
Registration Fees
Professor Oloyede also outlined the registration fees for the 2025 UTME:
- UTME (without Mock): N7,200
- UTME (with Mock): N8,200
- Direct Entry (DE): N5,700
- Trial Testing Mock (for underage candidates): N3,500
The Registrar emphasized that candidates will not be required to pay any additional service charges to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers.
Expected Participation
Approximately 1.5 million candidates are expected to sit for the 2025 UTME, which serves as the primary entry examination for Nigerian tertiary institutions.
What This Means for Candidates
The introduction of the Mock Trial for underage students reflects JAMB’s commitment to inclusivity and early preparation. For eligible candidates, the registration timeline provides ample opportunity to complete the process without rush.
Prospective candidates are advised to stay updated via official JAMB channels and avoid patronizing unauthorized agents or centers.
