The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that corps members’ monthly allowance will be increased to N77,000 starting February 2025.
Ahmed made the disclosure on Thursday while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State. He confirmed that the salary increment has been included in the 2025 Federal Government budget and will take effect once the budget is passed.
“This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000,” he stated.
Government’s Commitment to Corps Members’ Welfare
The NYSC DG reassured corps members of the government’s dedication to their welfare and security, urging them to serve their country with dedication.
He emphasized that corps members will not be posted to areas facing security threats, adding:
“We will not send our corps members to any areas with security challenges. Wherever we send them, they should be assured that the place is safe and secure for them to serve.”
Implications of the Allowance Increase
The planned increment to N77,000 per month is a significant boost from the current N33,000 stipend and reflects the government’s efforts to improve the financial support for corps members.
This development has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians praising the government’s decision, while others remain skeptical about its implementation.
As corps members across the country anticipate the official approval of the budget, all eyes will be on the Federal Government to ensure that this promise is fulfilled without delays.
