JAMB Suspends Two CBT Centres in Yobe, Benue for 14 Days
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the 14-day suspension of two Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres: Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum CBT Centre 2 in Yobe State and the CBT Centre, Otukpo, Benue State. The suspension takes effect from Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Reason for Suspension
JAMB stated that the procedural breach by the affected centres compromised the security measures put in place to prevent infractions and ensure the integrity of registration data.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Public Communication Adviser of JAMB, explained that the 2025 UTME registration, which began on February 3, 2025, would run until March 8, 2025. However, certain CBT centres were found to be non-compliant with registration guidelines.
Violation by CBT Centres
According to JAMB, candidates are required to manually fill in their details before uploading them to the registration portal. The template containing these details must also be uploaded as proof of the candidates’ selections and information provided.
However, JAMB discovered that some CBT centres submitted blank copies of the registration template in a misguided effort to increase candidate submissions, despite prior warnings about the implications of such actions.
JAMB’s Warning to CBT Centres
“This suspension serves as a stern warning to any centres considering similar actions. Any centre found uploading blank templates in the future will face cancellation and will be barred from participating in the Board’s activities,” JAMB stated.
JAMB has urged all CBT centres to strictly adhere to registration guidelines and ensure that all templates are properly completed and accurately uploaded before submission.
The Board remains committed to ensuring a transparent and credible registration process for the 2025 UTME, warning that it will take further disciplinary actions against any centre found violating its regulations.

State Government’s Commitment to Free Education
The approval was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, during a press conference in Lokoja on Tuesday. The Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring free examination registration for students in public schools.
Hon. Jones also confirmed that the recently approved ₦661 million for the payment of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees has been released, and the Ministry has begun profiling students to ensure that only deserving beneficiaries are included.
Strict Guidelines for Beneficiary Selection
The Commissioner warned against fraudulent activities, stating:
“No students or pupils should pay any amount for any of these examinations as everything has been covered, including administrative charges and passport photographs of the beneficiaries.”
He cautioned school principals against including non-beneficiaries in the list and emphasized that any fraudulent attempt to manipulate the register would undermine the scheme.
Objectives of the Policy
The Kogi State Free Examination, Registration Bill, signed into law by the former Governor Yahaya Bello, mandates the government to cover all internal and external examination fees for students in public primary and secondary schools.
The initiative aims to:
- Increase school enrollment.
- Reduce the number of out-of-school children.
- Ensure students complete their education without financial barriers.
Future Plans for NECO and NABTEB
Hon. Jones further stated that the Ododo-led administration is committed to sustaining and improving on the educational policies of its predecessor. He added that the state government will soon announce its position on covering the fees for NECO and NABTEB examinations.
With this initiative, Kogi State continues to lead in education accessibility and support for students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic success.
Ex-JAMB Staff Olayiwola Oguntade Jailed for N10m Fraud

A former staff member of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Ibadan, Oyo State, Olayiwola Oguntade, has been convicted and sentenced to five years in prison for fraud.
Oguntade was arraigned by the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on October 13, 2020, on a three-count amended charge bordering on forgery, advance fee fraud, and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of ₦10 million.
Details of the Fraud
According to court records, Oguntade, in 2010, obtained a loan of ₦10 million from Polybadan Microfinance Bank Ltd under false pretence. He forged a Local Purchase Order (LPO) and a Letter of Domiciliation, claiming they were issued by JAMB for an internet services contract that never existed.
The prosecution, led by Oyelakin Oyediran and Lanre Suleiman, presented 10 witnesses and incriminating documents that proved Oguntade’s fraudulent activities beyond reasonable doubt.
Court’s Verdict
On January 28, 2025, Justice Taiwo ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, convicting Oguntade and sentencing him to five years imprisonment without an option of fine.
Modus Operandi
Investigations revealed that Oguntade:
- Forged JAMB’s Local Purchase Order (LPO) and Letter of Domiciliation.
- Used the documents to obtain a ₦10 million loan from Polybadan Microfinance Bank.
- Involved a friend, K. Ola Al-Amin, to present the documents to the bank in Al-Amin’s name.
- Transferred the loan funds to three different companies—Reeden Investment Limited, Danmarg Multiventures Company, and Enrich System Nigeria Limited—on the false pretext of purchasing equipment for the purported internet services contract.
- Used the fraudulent loan to repay other debts he had incurred through similar schemes.
EFCC’s Response
The EFCC emphasized that the conviction serves as a warning against fraudulent activities, especially among public officials. The anti-graft agency reiterated its commitment to prosecuting financial crimes and ensuring accountability in public institutions.
Following the court ruling, Oguntade has been remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Center, where he will serve his sentence.
Conclusion
As the 2025 JAMB registration progresses, candidates are advised to adhere to official guidelines, complete their registration early, and use only JAMB-accredited CBT centres to avoid issues.
