UTME 2025: 90% of Mock Exam Towns Fully Booked, Candidates Must Choose Wisely – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that 90% of the available examination towns for the 2025 UTME Mock Examination have been fully booked, leaving only a few states with open slots.

In a statement released by JAMB’s Spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the board clarified that it does not randomly assign candidates to examination towns, stressing that candidates make their own selections when registering for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the optional mock exam.

Limited Slots Remaining in Select States

JAMB noted that while most mock exam towns are now unavailable, candidates still have options in the following states:

  • Gombe
  • Jigawa
  • Kano
  • Katsina
  • Kebbi
  • Plateau
  • Sokoto
  • Taraba
  • Yobe

The board encouraged candidates who still wish to participate in the mock examination to select towns in these states to secure a slot before full capacity is reached.

JAMB Warns Against Blaming the Board for Distance Issues

JAMB expressed concerns over some candidates selecting distant examination towns, only to later complain that the board assigned them to locations far from their residences.

**“While candidates have the right to choose their preferred examination town, JAMB urges them to consider the implications of their choices.

“Some candidates may select towns that are quite distant, potentially outside their home state. The Board should not be held responsible for such decisions.”**

Mock Exam Designed for CBT Familiarization, Not Mandatory

JAMB also reiterated that the mock examination is optional, primarily meant to help candidates familiarize themselves with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format and allow the board to test its systems ahead of the main UTME.

“The Board does not want to be overstressed, as the mock examination is only meant to give deserving candidates the opportunity to experience the CBT environment and enable the Board to test its facilities.”

Advice to Candidates: Choose Wisely

JAMB advised candidates to select their mock examination towns with travel logistics and convenience in mind, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience on exam day.

With most mock examination slots already filled, candidates still hoping to participate must act quickly and choose from the remaining available states to secure a spot.

Nasarawa Graduate Accuses University of Assigning His JAMB Registration Number to Another Student for NYSC Mobilization

A graduate of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Adamu Sunday, has accused the university of fraudulently assigning his JAMB registration number to another student, allowing the person to complete the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in his name.

Sunday, who completed his degree in Economics in 2024, stated that he was denied NYSC mobilization after the system flagged his registration number as already used for service in 2019, years before he even graduated.

“The School Has Made My Life Unbearable” – Sunday

Narrating his ordeal, Sunday revealed that he registered for UTME in 2018, gained admission to NSUK the same year, and graduated with a Second Class Upper in 2024. However, his attempts to register for NYSC in July 2024 were repeatedly rejected.

“I was shocked when the school told me I had already served in 2019. How is that possible when I gained admission in 2018 and resumed in 2019 due to a strike? Someone has stolen my JAMB number, served in my place, and is likely using the NYSC certificate for employment. Meanwhile, I, the rightful owner, am left stranded.”

Sunday took his complaint to the JAMB Zonal Office in Abuja, where biometric verification confirmed that he was the rightful owner of the JAMB registration number. He was then advised to return to the university for resolution.

School Officials Allegedly Ignored His Complaints

Despite presenting his JAMB admission letter and other documents, Sunday claims that university officials ignored his case and instead pressured him to accept JAMB regularization, which he refused.

“The school’s data entry officer mocked me, saying that even if I reported the matter anywhere in the world, I would still be referred back to them. They insisted that I either accept JAMB regularization or forget about NYSC.”

He also alleged that the university refused to disclose the identity of the person who used his JAMB number, stating that they had tried contacting the individual without success.

University Confirms Issue, Promises Sanctions for the Offender

Reacting to the allegations, NSUK’s Public Relations Officer, Jafaru Abdullahi, acknowledged that the issue is under investigation and that the university would discipline the individual who illegally used Sunday’s registration number.

“The person shares the same name as Sunday and used his number for mobilization. The school is investigating, and when we conclude, disciplinary actions will be taken.”

However, Abdullahi defended the school’s recommendation for JAMB regularization, insisting that it is a standard process that has no negative impact on students.

“If he regularizes his admission, he will be issued a new JAMB number and be mobilized for NYSC. Without regularization, he won’t be able to serve because someone else has already used his number.”

Sunday Rejects JAMB Regularization, Demands Justice

Despite the school’s assurances, Sunday has rejected the regularization process, arguing that it would invalidate his admission and render his university certificate useless.

“Why should I suffer for something I know nothing about? If the university made an error, they should correct it without forcing me to regularize. If regularization is the solution, why not apply it to the person who used my registration number instead?”

He insists that the rightful course of action is to restore his JAMB number, mobilize him for NYSC, and hold those responsible accountable.

What Happens Next?

While NSUK has promised to investigate the matter, Sunday remains frustrated, stating that his attempts to escalate the issue to higher authorities have been met with resistance.

With JAMB and NYSC now involved, the focus remains on how the university will resolve the case—whether through the punishment of the offender or ensuring Sunday is given the opportunity to serve without compromising his academic records.

In a significant effort to promote access to higher education, the Shehu ABG Foundation has paid the JAMB registration fees for 1,500 students across Kaduna State, ensuring that financially disadvantaged candidates can participate in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The initiative, spearheaded by Hon. Shehu Bawa ABG, aims to support children from vulnerable backgrounds who otherwise would not have been able to afford the registration fees.

Scholarships for 100 Health Science Students

In addition to covering JAMB registration costs, the foundation has also awarded 100 scholarships to students pursuing health-related courses, providing financial support to ensure they complete their education without fear of dropping out due to financial constraints.

Speaking through Ibrahim Wusono, Hon. Shehu Bawa ABG emphasized that the initiative was designed to reflect inclusivity, with beneficiaries carefully selected from all 23 Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, cutting across religious, ethnic, and political backgrounds.

Addressing the Rising Cost of Education

The former House of Representatives member lamented the rising cost of education, describing it as a major challenge for many families.

“Education is becoming increasingly unaffordable for the average Nigerian. Urgent and sustained efforts are needed from well-meaning individuals and corporate organizations to support young people, as they represent the future of this state and the country,” he stated.

He further reiterated the foundation’s commitment to sustaining the program, ensuring that more underprivileged students benefit in the future.

Ensuring Transparency in Beneficiary Selection

During the official presentation of JAMB registration forms, local government secretaries were tasked with selecting and vetting beneficiaries, ensuring only the most deserving candidates—those from financially challenged backgrounds—secure available slots.

Wusono urged committee members responsible for the selection process to uphold transparency and accountability, ensuring that the initiative truly benefits those in need.

With this initiative, the Shehu ABG Foundation continues to reinforce its dedication to education and youth empowerment, offering hope and opportunities to students across Kaduna State.

Empowering Youths Through Education

Asefon emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for youth empowerment and educational development, mirroring the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which aims to provide student loans for tertiary education.

“Education remains the most powerful tool for both personal and national development. By eliminating financial barriers to tertiary education—just as His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has done through NELFUND—we are not only investing in the future of these students but also strengthening the foundation of our nation’s progress,” Asefon stated.

Commitment to Student Welfare

The presidential aide expressed his unwavering commitment to student welfare, promising that this initiative is one of many interventions aimed at ensuring that no deserving Nigerian youth is denied access to education due to financial constraints.

“I commend the efforts of all stakeholders who continue to support students’ welfare and educational advancement. It is our collective responsibility to create opportunities for young Nigerians to thrive academically and contribute meaningfully to society,” he added.

Asefon assured Nigerian students that he remains dedicated to championing their cause and advocating for policies that prioritize their educational needs.

The Lawmaker representing Eti-Osa Constituency 02 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu, has commended the Federal Government’s National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for its role in supporting students in their pursuit of higher education.

Hon. Yishawu made this statement while flagging off the 12th edition of his annual free JAMB form distribution initiative, which provides 1,000 free UTME registration forms to indigent students.

Supporting Students for 12 Years

The distribution of free JAMB forms began on February 10, 2025, and will run until February 21, 2025. Hon. Yishawu reaffirmed his commitment to education as a pillar of national development, stating:

“This is the 12th edition, and I am very happy. Education is one of the cardinal agendas of our representation because it opens doors, and when you are educated, the sky is your limit.”

He emphasized that human capital development is critical for national progress, which is why his initiative focuses on helping students and easing the financial burden on their parents.

Boosting Access to Higher Education

Hon. Yishawu revealed that 22.5% of past beneficiaries have successfully gained admission into tertiary institutions through this initiative. However, he acknowledged that some students faced financial difficulties after passing JAMB, which prompted him to introduce stipends to assist them during their transition to higher education.

**“Initially, some students struggled with fees after obtaining free JAMB forms, so we started giving them stipends to stabilize them.

“Now, President Bola Tinubu has further eased this burden with the introduction of NELFUND, ensuring students can access financial aid throughout their academic journey. We are happy this is happening under his leadership.”**

He urged beneficiaries to take advantage of NELFUND, emphasizing that the fund covers both tuition and living expenses, making university education more accessible to Nigerian students.

Beneficiaries Express Gratitude

Several recipients of the free JAMB forms expressed their appreciation for the initiative:

  • Miss Adekunle Oluwaferanmi, a beneficiary, said:

  • A parent of one of the beneficiaries commended the lawmaker’s long-standing commitment to education, stating:
“Mr. Yishawu has been doing this for years. The JAMB form is expensive now, and for someone like me, who earns a salary, I would have had to wait until payday to buy it.”

“The form is expensive, and the process can be stressful. But here, we got it for free, and the process was smooth.”
