JAMB Warns Against Data Privacy Violations, Disburses N141.3 Million to CBT Centres for UTME 2025 Registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strong warning to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres against unauthorized retention of candidates’ data, particularly their mobile numbers, stressing that such actions violate data privacy laws.

JAMB Registrar, Emeritus Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, gave the warning during an unscheduled visit to several CBT centres in Ilorin, Kwara State, where he assessed the ongoing 2025 UTME/DE registration exercise.

JAMB Pays N141.3 Million to CBT Centres for UTME 2025 Services

While addressing stakeholders, Prof. Oloyede revealed that JAMB has so far paid N141.3 million to accredited CBT centres across the country for the services rendered during the UTME/DE registration process. He noted that this amount will increase significantly before the exercise concludes.

“By the end of this registration exercise, JAMB will have disbursed a substantial amount to CBT centres nationwide. This is part of our commitment to ensuring a smooth registration process and supporting the operations of accredited centres,” he stated.

Confirming this, one of the directors of a private CBT centre, Adetunji Group of Schools in Adeta, Ilorin, disclosed that his centre alone received over N600,000 for services provided within just four days.

JAMB Issues Strict Warning Against Data Privacy Violations

Prof. Oloyede strongly cautioned CBT centres against storing or retaining candidates’ data, particularly mobile numbers, stating that such actions constitute a violation of privacy laws.

“Keeping candidates’ mobile numbers and personal details is a violation of their right to data privacy, and it is against the law. CBT centres must strictly adhere to ethical practices,” he warned.

JAMB has continued to monitor CBT centres closely, ensuring that candidates’ personal information remains protected throughout the registration process.

JAMB Dismisses Alleged Onslaught from the National Assembly

Reacting to reports of alleged interference from the National Assembly, Prof. Oloyede dismissed such claims, stating that JAMB remains transparent and accountable in its operations.

“The public needs to understand the activities of JAMB and its expenditure. Our financial commitments, particularly in funding education and supporting CBT centres, are clear. There is no ‘onslaught’ against the board,” he emphasized.

Six CBT Centres Blacklisted, University Official Under Prosecution

JAMB has blacklisted six CBT centres for various infractions, reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy against malpractice and misconduct.

Additionally, the JAMB Registrar revealed that a senior university official is currently being prosecuted for illegal activities, with four others under investigation.

“We will continue to take action against any centre or individual involved in fraudulent practices. We are committed to maintaining the integrity of our examinations and ensuring a fair registration process for all candidates,” he affirmed.

Over 420,000 Candidates Registered So Far for UTME 2025

Providing an update on the 2025 UTME/DE registration, Prof. Oloyede announced that as of Monday, February 17, a total of 420,674 candidates had been registered nationwide.

Out of this number, 124,625 candidates registered for trial testing, a figure expected to increase significantly before the close of the day.
