The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the list of states with available slots for the optional mock examination for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to a statement issued by JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday in Abuja, the remaining states with available mock exam slots include:
- Gombe
- Jigawa
- Kano
- Katsina
- Kebbi
- Plateau
- Sokoto
- Taraba
- Yobe
Candidates interested in participating in the mock exam in these states are advised to select their examination towns accordingly while the slots are still available.
JAMB Warns Candidates on Exam Town Selection
JAMB has observed a trend where candidates select examination towns based on unusual preferences, likely in an attempt to participate in the optional mock exam. However, the Board has issued a warning against making hasty or desperate selections.
“JAMB has observed unusual preferences among candidates regarding their choice of examination towns, likely to participate in the optional mock examination. This notice aims to advise candidates against desperately selecting examination towns, only to later accuse the Board of assigning them to towns that are far from their residences, towns, or states,” the statement read.
Mock Exam Date and Importance
The 2025 UTME mock examination is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 7, 2025, and is designed to give candidates a firsthand experience of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. Meanwhile, the main UTME examination will hold from April 18 to 28, 2025.
Benjamin emphasized that while candidates have the freedom to choose their preferred exam towns, they should do so with careful consideration.
JAMB Not Responsible for Distance-Related Complaints
The Board clarified that once an exam town reaches full capacity, it will no longer be available for selection. Candidates who select far-away locations must bear the consequences, as JAMB will not be responsible for any inconvenience.
“Candidates are encouraged to choose their examination towns consciously with travel logistics and convenience in mind, ensuring a smoother experience on examination day,” Benjamin stated.
JAMB also reiterated that the mock exam is optional and primarily designed to familiarize candidates with the CBT environment, as well as to test the Board’s facilities.
Candidates planning to sit for the mock examination are advised to finalize their selection early to secure their preferred locations before the available slots are exhausted.
