The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has confirmed the promotion of 20 senior academic staff members to the esteemed rank of Professor over the last three months.
Vice-Chancellor’s Announcement
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Fasina made this disclosure during a pre-convocation briefing at the university campus, ahead of FUOYE’s 9th convocation ceremony.
Among the newly elevated scholars is Prof. (Mrs.) Tolulope Ariyomo, a first-class graduate of the Federal University of Technology Akure and the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. She has been appointed a full Professor of Behavioral Ecology and Aquatic Toxicology, effective from October 2024.
Also included in the list of confirmed full Professors is Prof. (Mrs.) Abibath Adubiaro, the Secretary to the Government of Ekiti State (SSG), whose promotion also took effect from October 2024.
Other newly confirmed Professors include Prof. (Mrs.) Medinat Adekoya, Prof. Olusayo Olubosede, and 17 other distinguished scholars. The decision was formally ratified during the Governing Council’s meeting held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
NELFUND Financial Assistance for Students
Prof. Fasina also lauded the Federal Government for its financial intervention benefiting 3,281 vulnerable students through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). According to him, N305.757 million has been disbursed to FUOYE students, significantly easing the financial burden of those struggling to pay tuition fees.
Honorary Degree Awards
As part of the convocation ceremony, FUOYE will confer honorary degree awards on four prominent Nigerians, including:
- Kanu Godwin Agabi – Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation
- Bayo Ojo – Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation
- Mr. Segun Alebiosu – Managing Director, First Bank of Nigeria
- Dr. Allen Onyema – Chairman, Air Peace Airline
Academic Achievements
A total of 8,444 students will graduate at the convocation, with 177 students earning First Class honours, reflecting FUOYE’s commitment to academic excellence.
The convocation ceremony is expected to be a landmark event, celebrating both the academic achievements of students and the contributions of scholars advancing research and knowledge within FUOYE and beyond.
