With the 2025 JAMB exam just weeks away, many candidates in northern Nigeria are facing an unexpected challenge—the closure of schools and tutorial centers due to the Ramadan fasting period. This decision, enforced by Hisbah boards in states like Katsina and Bauchi, has sparked concerns among students who fear that their preparation will be severely affected.
How the Closures Impact JAMB 2025 Candidates
JAMB is a critical exam that determines entry into Nigerian universities, and for many students, the final weeks before the exam are crucial for revision and intensive study. However, with schools and tutorial centers shutting down, candidates are left without structured learning environments, professional guidance, and group study opportunities.
- Loss of Access to Teachers and Study Materials: Many students rely on extra coaching classes, especially in challenging subjects like Mathematics, Physics, and English. The closure of schools and tutorial centers means they will now have to study on their own without direct access to teachers. This is particularly troubling for candidates who struggle with self-study or lack study materials at home.
- Limited Time for Catch-Up Learning: For students who had hoped to use this period to cover missed topics or strengthen weak areas, the sudden closure could mean lost opportunities. Many JAMB candidates have tight schedules, and missing structured revision could lower their chances of scoring high.
- Disruptions in CBT Training: Since JAMB is a Computer-Based Test (CBT), many candidates depend on CBT training centers to familiarize themselves with the exam format. With the shutdown, students who do not own personal computers or smartphones may struggle to practice adequately before the exam.
Students’ Frustrations and Uncertainty
Several JAMB candidates have expressed frustration over the decision, with some fearing it could cost them their university admission. In Bauchi, where the government has enforced a five-week school closure, students are particularly worried about losing valuable preparation time.
“How do they expect us to pass when we can’t even go to school?” a student lamented. “JAMB is in April, and now we are left to prepare alone. This is not fair to us.”
Possible Solutions for JAMB Candidates
While the situation is challenging, JAMB candidates can take alternative steps to continue their preparation:
- Utilizing Online Study Platforms: Websites like Myschool.ng and JAMB’s official online portal offer past questions, tutorials, and practice tests.
- Forming Study Groups at Home: Students can organize small peer study sessions to maintain learning momentum.
- Using JAMB Mobile Apps: There are several mobile applications that offer JAMB practice tests and video lessons to aid self-study.
- Seeking Private Tutoring: Where possible, students can arrange for home tutoring with teachers or mentors.
Will JAMB Extend the Exam Date?
As the pressure mounts, some candidates are hoping that JAMB will consider adjusting the exam timetable due to the disruptions caused by the Ramadan school closures. However, there has been no official statement from JAMB regarding any potential extension.
For now, affected candidates must find alternative ways to study, as the exam remains scheduled between April 25 and May 5, 2025.
Final Thoughts
While Ramadan is a sacred period for Muslims, the impact of these school closures on JAMB candidates cannot be ignored. With thousands of students affected, it remains to be seen how authorities will address the concerns of candidates who risk being underprepared for one of the most important exams of their lives.
For JAMB 2025 candidates in affected states, the coming weeks will require extra discipline, creativity, and determination to overcome this unexpected challenge.
This is very serious, closing the tutorial centers for Ramadan. This is very bad. The way things are going in Nigeria needs a serious check.
I feel that the religious is becoming a serious threat to the growth of education hence jeopardizing the future of the young ones.
The fact remains that we should prepare for worse Nigeria if nothing is done to stop this rubbish.
Don’t raise it now, I have been crying and shouting over the way Oro Festival has been shooting down businesses and school activities in South West and nobody seems to care, now turned towards North.
I wonder the usefulness of our Constitution in this country where we pay law makers heavily to make laws and at the end, the laws are found in thrash can.
Where is the freedom of movement and right to education in this country, soon, Oro Festival will commences in South West States and usual, everywhere will shot down.
I wish us well.
Are you sure this your name is really your name or you are just an impostor from Biafraud Land just to give Yoruba bad names does Oro festival being done in the South West ever infringe on any Man business or right, bastard Igbo man pretending to be Yoruba, useless characters assassination set of tribe, you guys will soon die because of your hatred and bitterness on top of Yoruba matters.
Your stupidity is on another level, I wonder if you even sucked proper breast or genetically modified breast. Someone raised a point that is of concern to him as it affects where he comes from and u want to push it on ibo people. I wonder why covid did not kill you in 2020, cos it is ur like that carry fake news that cause tribal/ religious crisis in Nigeria. @DSS must look for this fool
What activity has Hisbah designed for the candidates for the period of they currently use for their lessons?
Assalamu alaikum Hisbah, you people should fear Allah and discard that action you’ve taken on jamb activities. Muslims are expected to be brave and to endure any situation they found themselves, our religion is not a religion of lazy people. Does that mean during Ramadan one should not struggle?
Please sit down and think very well on this action you’ve taken because of the feature of the young once, if students fail because of this action you would be responsible for it and Allah the almighty would ask you because they are the feature generation and is that how you want the feature generation to fail. Meaning if they failed they would not be able to get some opportunities, and with that is Islam moving forward or backward?
Finally please whenever you want to make decision look at the number of people that it would affect, some might fall victim because they are innocent just as young birds died in the nest because they are waiting for their mom (bird) to bring food for them and the bird was unable to returned because it was killed. Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah, Ramadan Mubarak in advance!
Northern Nigeria will always be backwards in everything. Their leaders in north are stupid for placing religion over education and religion is killing them in the north and cause avoic on other regions too. So this is affecting Christians in that state too? Hmmm one religion make itself bigger over other this needs to be checked.
I’m trying to generate my profile code is is unavailable since
