The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reassured candidates that the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will not be conducted over the internet. Instead, the examination will run on a Local Area Network (LAN), ensuring a secure and stable testing environment.
JAMB Registrar Addresses Concerns
During a meeting with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) on February 25, 2025, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, clarified that UTME is not an internet-based exam. He emphasized that the exam is conducted using LAN connectivity within the examination centres, meaning candidates will not need to worry about internet disruptions during their test.
“The UTME does not require internet connectivity. It is conducted over a Local Area Network (LAN), which ensures that all candidates have a smooth and uninterrupted exam experience,” Prof. Oloyede stated.
This clarification was made in response to concerns from candidates, parents, and stakeholders who feared that poor internet access in some parts of the country might affect the examination process.
What This Means for Candidates
With JAMB’s LAN-based system, the UTME will not be impacted by internet failures, network congestion, or slow connections. This setup ensures that candidates can take their exams without technical interruptions caused by poor internet service.
JAMB has also assured candidates that all accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres are well-equipped with the necessary infrastructure to run the examination efficiently.
Mandatory NIN for JAMB 2025 Registration
In addition to clarifying the exam process, JAMB has reiterated that possession of a National Identification Number (NIN) is compulsory for all candidates registering for the UTME.
This requirement is part of JAMB’s ongoing effort to enhance security, eliminate impersonation, and ensure accurate candidate verification during the examination and admission process. Candidates who do not have a NIN will not be able to complete their registration.
Final Words
JAMB’s clarification on the LAN-based nature of UTME 2025 reassures candidates that poor internet connectivity will not affect the exam. With all CBT centres equipped with the required LAN setup, candidates can focus on their preparation without fear of network-related disruptions.
Prospective UTME candidates are advised to complete their registration before the March 8, 2025 deadline and ensure they have their NIN ready to avoid any last-minute complications.
