JAMB 2025: Will Questions Be Set Outside the Official Syllabus?

As the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) approaches, many candidates are seeking clarity on how to focus their preparation. One such candidate, Oluwatomiwa, raised an important question:

“Will JAMB add any topic that is not in the syllabus, or will everything I see on the syllabus come out and everything I didn’t see in the syllabus won’t come out?”

In response to similar concerns, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has consistently maintained that all UTME questions are based strictly on the official syllabus provided for each subject. This syllabus outlines the specific topics, objectives, and recommended textbooks that candidates are expected to study.

JAMB has also advised candidates to download the official syllabus from its portal or use the JAMB brochure to guide their reading. According to the Board, sticking to the syllabus gives students a focused path for effective preparation and avoids the risk of studying irrelevant materials.

Candidates are therefore encouraged to concentrate on the topics listed in the syllabus and ensure they understand each area well. While every single topic may not appear in the exam, no question will be set outside what the syllabus covers.

With the right focus and commitment, candidates can confidently prepare knowing that the exam content will stay within the officially approved boundaries.
