Adamawa Parents Slam JAMB Officials Over Delays, Poor Coordination During 2025 Mock Exam

Parents in Adamawa State have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over what they described as a complete failure in the conduct of the 2025 Mock UTME, particularly at the Modibbo Adama University (MAU) CBT Centre in Yola.

The mock exam, held on Thursday, April 10, was riddled with delays, network failures, and poor coordination, leaving many candidates stranded for hours and forcing some to be rescheduled.

“JAMB Has Always Been a Failed System” – Angry Parents Speak Out

At the MAU CBT Centre, parents who accompanied their children waited under the scorching sun for most of the day, as the exam scheduled for 7:00 AM did not start until well past 1:00 PM. Some candidates reportedly finished their session as late as 4:00 PM.

One frustrated parent, Musa Abubakar, described the situation as unacceptable, calling JAMB “a bunch of failed administrators.”

“Since my younger days, this JAMB body has always paraded a bunch of failed administrators,” he said.

Another parent who drove his daughter from a distant location to the centre lamented that many candidates had to be rescheduled, increasing costs and stress for families.

“The implications is that most of the students had to be rescheduled because the number of batches could not be completed today. And now, the expenses are shifted to the parents,” he said.

Network Failure Blamed for the Delay

A CBT centre official who spoke on condition of anonymity blamed the JAMB headquarters’ network failure for the delay.

“We work with the JAMB network, and when their network is bad, there is nothing we can do,” the official said.

When Arewa PUNCH visited multiple centres across Yola at around 1 PM, many candidates scheduled for early morning sessions had not even started their exams.

Parents Question the Relevance of JAMB

Several parents at the venue expressed frustration, with some calling for the cancellation of JAMB as a requirement for admission into tertiary institutions.

“What is the relevance of JAMB conducting examinations for institutions that don’t even have power over how many students they can admit?” one parent questioned.

JAMB Yet to Respond

As of the time of this report, JAMB has not issued an official statement addressing the specific situation in Yola, although it previously acknowledged delays in some centres nationwide during the mock exam. The Board attributed these to the testing of new features ahead of the main UTME starting April 25, 2025.
