JAMB Warns 2025 UTME Candidates About Circulation of Fraudulent Messages

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised alarm over the circulation of fraudulent messages targeting candidates who registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The Board described the messages as false, misleading, and criminal, and has called on candidates and the general public to remain vigilant.

In an official statement released by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, the Board revealed that scammers are using a deceptive scheme to impersonate JAMB’s official messaging system.

Fraudsters Mimic JAMB’s Short Code

According to the Board, the fraudsters combined a random UTME numerical variant (8863) with JAMB’s official sort code (55019) to create a fake sender ID. Through this setup, they’ve been sending messages to candidates, falsely claiming that irregularities have been detected in their JAMB registration or results.

The fraudulent messages then urge the recipients to contact certain individuals who would “assist” them in fixing the issues—an act designed to defraud unsuspecting candidates.

“These messages are not from JAMB. Security agencies have been notified and are currently tracking the perpetrators behind this scam,” the statement emphasized.

JAMB Urges Candidates to Be Vigilant

JAMB is advising all 2025 UTME candidates to ignore any unofficial messages asking them to reach out to unknown contacts for help with issues like result correction, profile recovery, or exam upgrades.

“This is a common tactic employed by fraudsters who seek to exploit the examination period to deceive and defraud innocent candidates,” the Board warned.

How to Stay Safe

Candidates are encouraged to follow these guidelines:

  • Ignore messages that come from unfamiliar or suspicious sender IDs
  • Do not engage with individuals claiming to “help” with JAMB-related issues
  • Always verify messages through official JAMB platforms: www.jamb.gov.ng or JAMB offices nationwide
  • Report suspicious messages to the nearest JAMB office or the appropriate security agencies
