2025 UTME: Over 40 Candidates Arrested for Impersonation — JAMB Insists No Rescheduling for Missed Exams

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that over 40 candidates have been arrested for impersonation during the ongoing 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This was confirmed by the JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who emphasized that those caught have been handed over to the police and will face full prosecution.

“We have arrested more than 40 impersonators who are currently in police custody. They will be prosecuted accordingly,” he stated.

No Rescheduling for Missed Exams

In addition to the crackdown on malpractice, Professor Oloyede made it clear that candidates who missed their exams will not be rescheduled, regardless of their reasons.

“If you are going to the UK and you miss the flight, will you tell the plane to come back?” he asked, stressing the importance of punctuality and personal responsibility.

JAMB warned candidates and parents not to expect any special treatment once a scheduled exam session has been missed, as the system must be kept fair and orderly for all.

Clarification on Exam Centres

Responding to complaints about candidates being posted outside their selected towns, JAMB maintained that:

  • Candidates are always assigned to centres within their chosen towns during registration.
  • Claims of being sent to different locations are unfounded and misleading.

This clarification comes as part of JAMB’s efforts to counter misinformation and reassure the public of its commitment to fairness.

Progress of the 2025 UTME So Far

As of Monday, April 28, 2025:

  • Over 1.6 million candidates out of the 2.03 million registered have already successfully taken their UTME across the country.
  • The examination is proceeding steadily, with candidates writing in batches each day.

However, JAMB noted that it is not in a rush to release results immediately.
The Board explained that thorough screening and verification of exam data must be done first to uphold the credibility and integrity of the entire process.

Final Words

JAMB continues to urge candidates to:

  • Avoid engaging in any malpractice, as the Board remains firm on its zero-tolerance policy.
  • Always depend on official announcements from JAMB’s website or verified channels for updates.

The 2025 UTME is a major step for candidates aiming to secure admission into tertiary institutions, and JAMB insists that the process will remain fair, transparent, and disciplined at every stage.
