Following the sudden postponement of the 2025 JAMB UTME registration, many prospective candidates have taken to social media to express their disappointment, citing financial and logistical difficulties caused by the last-minute change.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had initially scheduled the UTME registration to begin on January 31, 2025, but in a last-minute announcement, it was postponed to Monday, February 3, 2025. While JAMB attributed the delay to necessary adjustments in its registration templates and scrutiny of fraudulent CBT centres, many candidates believe the timing of the announcement was unfair.
Candidates React to Late Postponement
Twitter user @YunusaEyan was among those who criticized the sudden change, stating:
“Even though the reasons are understandable, the postponement is impromptu. So please, next time, let it not be on the same date when many candidates have already traveled and are present at the centers. It’s challenging, given the economic situation we are in!”
His statement reflects the frustration of many candidates who had already made financial commitments for transportation, accommodation, and other logistics to complete their registration.
Similarly, other users have echoed the same concerns, with some pointing out that the rising cost of transportation makes such last-minute changes financially burdensome for students and their families.
Calls for Better Communication from JAMB
Many candidates are now urging JAMB to improve its communication strategy to prevent future inconveniences. They argue that such major decisions should be made and announced well in advance to avoid unnecessary financial and emotional stress on students.
While JAMB has apologized for the inconvenience, affected candidates are hoping for a more structured and predictable process in future registrations.
For now, candidates are advised to stay updated and prepare for the new registration start date—Monday, February 3, 2025—while ensuring they register only at JAMB-accredited CBT centres to avoid complications.
