“Don’t Study These Courses Because AI Will Make Them Obsolete”: Omokri Warns 2025 JAMB UTME Candidates

Former presidential aide and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Reno Omokri, has advised 2025 UTME candidates to avoid studying courses that will soon become obsolete due to Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Omokri, in a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, warned that AI is rapidly replacing jobs, particularly those that involve data entry and some aspects of law. He urged students to choose courses that will remain relevant in the job market, particularly in fields related to science, technology, and mathematics.

“AI is Taking Over the Job Market” – Omokri

Omokri cautioned prospective university students against pursuing degrees that AI will soon render useless.

“One of the worst things that could happen to you this year or in the future is to begin studying a course that will be obsolete by Artificial Intelligence (AI). This is because there is a lot of encroachment on the job market by AI,” he stated.

According to him, jobs related to data entry, accounting, and parts of the legal profession are already disappearing, making some university degrees less valuable in the long run.

Omokri Urges Students to Choose STEM Courses

As the 2025 UTME registration begins on February 3, 2025, Omokri advised candidates to opt for courses that will remain relevant in the evolving job market.

“What a lot of people don’t understand is that AI is always getting smarter. So, all jobs involving Data Entry, most of them are going to go, including Accountancy. Even a lot of stuff in the legal profession is just already obsolete,” he explained.

He highlighted that AI is expected to wipe out 87 million jobs globally in 2025 but will also create 97 million new jobs. However, he stressed that students must position themselves in fields where the job growth will occur, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

“This year alone, AI is going to be wiping away 87 million jobs. That is bad news. But the good news is that AI is going to be creating 97 million jobs. We are going to see an increase, but we need to know where that increase is going to be. That increase is going to be in science, technology, and mathematics.”

Omokri Lists “Obsolete” University Courses

Omokri has previously listed nine university courses that he believes are no longer relevant in 2025 and beyond. He argued that these courses do not develop practical skills but focus on academic knowledge that AI can easily replace.

He cited the example of Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, who recently announced job openings without requiring formal university degrees, instead prioritizing skills over certificates.

Omokri’s stance has sparked debates among Nigerians, with many questioning whether traditional degrees will remain relevant in an era where AI-driven automation is reshaping the workforce.

Implications for UTME Candidates

As students prepare for the 2025 JAMB UTME, Omokri’s remarks raise an important question: Are Nigerian universities adapting their curricula to match global trends?

With AI advancements rapidly transforming the workforce, prospective students may need to rethink their career choices to stay competitive in the evolving job market.

  1. Why will AI replace jobs, it’s not fair and it’s will make many students jobless but on the other side it’s helps but AI shouldn’t be replacing certain jobs for human so that there will be employment because when the jobs are replaced there will be unemployment
