The Obot Etiebet Foundation has extended a prestigious scholarship to Ime Promise Ukeme, one of the top scorers in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Ukeme, a standout student from Holy Family College, Abak, Akwa Ibom State, achieved a remarkable score of 350 in the examination conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Ukeme’s academic prowess shone brightly as he also clinched seven out of ten subject prizes during the 2024 edition of the Atuekong Don Etiebet Prize Awards for Best Graduating Students. This feat secured his place as the school’s overall best student.

The scholarship announcement was made during a three-in-one celebration organized by Holy Family College’s management. The event marked the 80th birthday of Chief Don Etiebet, the school’s alumnus, the unveiling of a modern chapel, and the 40th anniversary of Bishop Camillus Umoh’s priesthood in the Ikot Ekpene Diocese.

Chief Don Etiebet, a former Petroleum Minister and founder of Data Sciences, established the Obot Etiebet Foundation in 1994 to provide humanitarian support. For nearly 20 years, the foundation has awarded the Atuekong Don Etiebet Prize, backed by an annual N1 million endowment.

While Ukeme’s score of 350 placed him among the top achievers nationwide, the highest UTME score of 367 was recorded by three candidates—Olowu Oluwasijibomi, Alayande David, and Orukpe Joel—from Ondo, Oyo, and Edo states, respectively. Ukeme plans to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering, joining a group of outstanding scholars from Akwa Ibom, including Emmanuel Jeremiah, Essiet Etini, and Umoh Joshua, who scored 366, 365, and 365, respectively.

Reverend Father Columbus Archibong, the principal of Holy Family College, lauded Chief Etiebet for his unwavering support, describing him as a vital pillar for the 82-year-old institution. Chief Etiebet himself is an illustrious alumnus of the college, having studied there from 1958 to 1962 before advancing to the College of Immaculate Conception in Enugu.

This scholarship reaffirms the commitment of the Obot Etiebet Foundation to nurturing academic excellence and empowering future leaders.
