FCSC to Use JAMB Facilities to Improve Recruitment and Civil Service Operations

The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has announced plans to adopt the technological infrastructure of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in a bid to reform and modernize its internal operations, especially in recruitment, promotion, and disciplinary procedures.

This development was revealed by the Chairman of the FCSC, Professor Tunji Olaopa, during a courtesy visit to JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, at the Board’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, March 20, 2025.

Professor Olaopa explained that the Commission was in the process of moving away from traditional, manual methods of operation to a more digital and automated system. According to him, JAMB’s transformation in recent years serves as a model of transparency and efficiency, and the Commission is seeking to replicate such systems.

“We want JAMB to provide us with technical support, at least in our learning and planning,” he said. “We are determined to return to a system that promotes competence, integrity, and true merit in the civil service.”

He commended JAMB for its global-standard approach to examinations, data handling, and ICT deployment, noting that these are the exact areas where the FCSC seeks partnership and support.

In response, Professor Ishaq Oloyede welcomed the FCSC delegation and expressed the Board’s willingness to collaborate with institutions genuinely committed to reform. However, he emphasized that JAMB only partners with organizations that show transparency, discipline, and readiness for change.

Professor Oloyede advised the Commission to begin with the digitization of its recruitment procedures, which would lay the groundwork for a full transition into automated and merit-based human resource systems. He assured the FCSC of JAMB’s technical assistance, adding that their platforms have already been successfully used to support similar reforms in other sectors.

This partnership, if fully implemented, could mark a turning point for the Nigerian civil service—making it more transparent, accountable, and driven by performance rather than connection or favoritism. It also signals a broader shift in the public sector’s attitude toward technology, where digital solutions are increasingly being seen as necessary tools for good governance.

The FCSC’s move to align with JAMB’s infrastructure is expected to help restore public confidence in civil service recruitment processes and strengthen the integrity of appointments and promotions in federal establishments.

  1. Please if the government will be able to extend the jamb registration because there are still a lot of people that are yet to register and they want to register.
