In a bid to support education and uplift underprivileged students, Hon. Nicholas Ebomo Mutu, a member of the House of Representatives representing Patani/Bomadi Constituency, has purchased 150 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students. His initiative aims to give young people in his constituency a fair chance at gaining admission into tertiary institutions, despite financial constraints.
Supporting Education Amid Economic Hardship
Hon. Mutu acknowledged the economic difficulties many parents and guardians face, making it challenging to fund their children’s education. He stated that his decision to sponsor JAMB forms was fueled by his desire to ease the financial burden on struggling families and ensure that talented but disadvantaged students have a shot at furthering their education.
“Education is the foundation of development, and I believe every child deserves an opportunity to pursue higher learning. Many parents cannot afford the cost of JAMB registration due to financial constraints, and I want to bridge that gap,” he said.
Commitment to Ijaw Youths’ Educational Growth
Beyond simply providing JAMB forms, Hon. Mutu has pledged to award scholarships to candidates who perform exceptionally well in the examination. This commitment aligns with his broader vision of fostering educational advancement among Ijaw youths and enabling them to pursue university education without financial worries.
This initiative is part of his longstanding commitment to youth empowerment, as he has previously introduced various programs aimed at improving education, skill acquisition, and career development in his constituency.
A Broader Vision for Constituency Development
Hon. Mutu’s contributions extend beyond education. Over the years, he has actively facilitated:
- Entrepreneurship training and empowerment programs for youths and women.
- Healthcare support initiatives aimed at improving medical access for residents.
- Infrastructure development projects, including roads, schools, and community centers, to enhance the quality of life in Patani and Bomadi.
His efforts reflect a holistic approach to governance, ensuring that the people in his constituency benefit from both educational opportunities and broader developmental initiatives.
A Beacon of Hope for Indigent Students
The students who received the JAMB sponsorship have expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity. Many of them had lost hope of sitting for the exam due to financial difficulties. With this support, they can now focus on preparing for their exams and securing admission into universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education.
As the 2025 JAMB UTME approaches, this initiative is expected to change the lives of many students, giving them the chance to chase their dreams and contribute meaningfully to society in the future. Hon. Mutu’s intervention serves as a beacon of hope, reinforcing the importance of leadership that prioritizes education and youth development.
