Abuja, Nigeria – March 18, 2025 – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has sanctioned 132 accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Nigeria due to data mismatches discovered during the 2025 UTME registration process.
JAMB made this announcement in its weekly bulletin released on Monday, stating that these centres were flagged for irregularities that affected candidate data accuracy. The infractions reportedly impacted around 200 candidates nationwide.
While this represents a small percentage of the over 2 million registered candidates, JAMB emphasized that maintaining integrity in the registration process is crucial for the credibility of the examination.
JAMB Sanctions CBT Centres for Registration Errors
JAMB revealed that some of the sanctioned CBT centres allowed incorrect candidate details to be submitted, leading to mismatches in personal data such as:
- Names not matching with NIN records
- Wrong subject combinations entered
- Errors in candidate biodata
As a result, JAMB has permanently barred the registration officers at these centres from participating in any future JAMB registration or examination activities.
The affected candidates have also been invited to visit JAMB centres to correct their details before the main UTME exam begins on April 25, 2025.
JAMB warned all CBT centres to strictly follow registration guidelines, as failure to comply will result in further penalties, including revocation of accreditation.
States Affected by the Sanctions
JAMB disclosed that the affected CBT centres are spread across multiple states, with some states having higher cases than others.
The breakdown of sanctioned centres includes:
- Lagos – 20 centres
- Ogun – 15 centres
- Enugu – 11 centres
- FCT (Abuja) – 6 centres
- Rivers – 6 centres
- Benue – 8 centres
- Delta – 5 centres
- Oyo – 6 centres
- Nasarawa – 6 centres
- Ondo – 4 centres
- Osun – 5 centres
- Other states – varying numbers of affected centres
JAMB urged all remaining CBT centres to exercise diligence and professionalism in handling candidate registrations to avoid similar sanctions in the future.
JAMB Urges Institutions to Verify Direct Entry (DE) Results
In a separate development, JAMB has also called on universities and higher institutions to thoroughly verify results submitted by Direct Entry (DE) candidates.
This warning follows cases of widespread result forgery, particularly in Direct Entry admissions. JAMB cited an example from Bayero University, Kano (BUK), which recently screened 148 DE results and found that only six were genuine, while the remaining 142 were forged.
To curb this issue, JAMB is reinforcing the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS), which was introduced two years ago to help institutions verify results more effectively.
JAMB warned that institutions must screen all Direct Entry applicants carefully to ensure that only those with legitimate qualifications gain admission into tertiary institutions.
Final Warning to CBT Centres and Candidates
JAMB has reiterated that strict measures will continue to be enforced to prevent fraudulent activities in both UTME and Direct Entry registrations.
Candidates are strongly advised to double-check their registration details and visit JAMB centres for any corrections before the examination period begins.
For further updates and clarifications, candidates are encouraged to visit the official JAMB website (www.jamb.gov.ng) or contact accredited CBT centres.
JAMB has assured the public that it remains committed to upholding the credibility of the UTME and Direct Entry processes as part of its mission to ensure a transparent and fair admission system in Nigeria.
Please if am applying for direct entry what are the qualifications I will need. And how am I going to go about the application, am I to go to the school directly or jamb will also be the one to register me. Please clarify me on this, thank you.
