A candidate preparing for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has raised concerns about not receiving the official reading text (novel) after completing his registration.
The candidate, identified as O. Faruq, took to social media to inform the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) about the issue.
Candidate’s Complaint
In his message, Faruq explained:
“I reported here some weeks ago that I registered for the UTME on the 28th of February 2025 with one of your registration centres located in Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, and till today I have not been given the material (novel) to read in preparation for the exam.”
Receiving the official novel is an important part of UTME preparation, especially for the Use of English section, where questions are usually drawn from the assigned text.
JAMB’s Response
In a quick reply, JAMB directed Faruq to return to his registration centre with proof of registration.
“@Faruqgbolagan, kindly return to the centre with proof of registration to collect your reading text,” JAMB tweeted through its official handle @JAMBHQ.
Candidates are reminded that the reading text is part of the registration package, and every registered candidate is entitled to a free copy.
What Candidates Should Do If They Haven’t Received Their Novel
If you have registered for the 2025 UTME but have not received your novel, you should:
- Return to the registration centre where you registered
- Go along with your registration slip or any proof of registration
- Politely request for your novel
- If the centre refuses, report officially to JAMB through their support channels or office

Candidates should ensure they get their assigned novel as it will play a major role in their performance during the Use of English exam.
The earlier you start reading, the better your preparation for the main UTME which starts on April 25, 2025.
