JAMB Identifies Candidates Ineligible for UTME 2025 Exam

Lagos, Nigeria – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has emphasized that candidates who fail biometric verification on the examination day will not be allowed to sit for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or its mock version.

The 2025 UTME is scheduled to take place from Friday, April 25, 2025, to Monday, May 5, 2025. In its latest weekly bulletin obtained on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, JAMB reiterated its strict stance against any form of examination malpractice or data irregularities.

Strict Registration and Verification Policies

JAMB warned that no parent or proxy would be permitted to transact on behalf of candidates or interfere with the registration process. The board explained that this measure is intended to prevent data mismatches and unauthorized alterations to candidates’ records.

To further curb registration infractions, JAMB stated that its surveillance systems are fully operational to detect and penalize non-compliant registration centers. It emphasized that only candidates who complete a seamless registration process will be allowed to take the examination.

Additionally, JAMB issued a stern warning to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, stressing the need for strict adherence to registration regulations. The board made it clear that UTME registration is not a group or school-based process. It cautioned that group registration practices often lead to errors such as data mixing, mutilation, and mismatches, which can disqualify candidates from sitting for the exam.

CBT centres found violating these policies face severe sanctions, including suspension or outright revocation of their accreditation. JAMB also confirmed that certain centres under investigation for fraudulent activities may soon lose their approval to conduct the UTME.

Education Minister Assures Smooth UTME Registration

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, visited JAMB’s Lagos zonal headquarters in Ikoyi on Friday, February 14, 2025. During the visit, he also inspected the ETC CBT Centre in Ilupeju, Lagos, alongside JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

The minister’s visit aimed to observe the registration process firsthand and engage with prospective UTME candidates. Alausa interacted with several students, inquiring about their registration experiences and academic goals. He assured them that the federal government remains committed to improving education accessibility and removing barriers that hinder students from pursuing higher education.

Alausa also reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system. He commended JAMB for its continuous efforts to enhance the UTME process through cutting-edge technology and strict compliance measures.

JAMB’s Final Warning

With the 2025 UTME approaching, JAMB has made it clear that compliance with biometric verification and registration guidelines is non-negotiable. Candidates are urged to ensure their registration details are accurate and to adhere strictly to JAMB’s guidelines to avoid being disqualified on the exam day.

UTME 2025: Parents, Candidates Frustrated Over Registration Challenges as JAMB Registers 782,027 Candidates

The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration has faced multiple challenges, with parents and candidates expressing frustration over delays, overcrowding, and network failures at various Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Nigeria.

Despite the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) confirming that 782,027 candidates have successfully registered as of Friday, February 14, 2025, several candidates are still struggling to complete their registration due to technical issues, poor network connectivity, and alleged corruption at some centres.

Challenges Faced by Candidates and Parents

Reports from across the country indicate that many candidates have spent days attempting to register without success. The major complaints include:

Advertisements
  • Difficulty in Generating Profile Codes: Some students have been unable to generate their JAMB profile codes, a mandatory step before registration.
  • Limited Daily Slots at CBT Centres: Many centres are reportedly capping the number of candidates they register per day, with some centres registering as few as five candidates per day for Direct Entry (DE) applicants.
  • Network Failures and Power Outages: Some candidates reported waiting for hours due to internet connectivity issues at CBT centres.
  • Overcrowding and Long Wait Times: Limited registration centres in some locations have led to large crowds, forcing some students to arrive as early as 3 AM to secure a spot.
  • Allegations of Bribery and Favoritism: Some candidates and parents alleged that some CBT centre officials are accepting bribes to allow certain students to register faster, causing further delays for others.

Frustration and Concerns Raised by Candidates and Parents

Several candidates and parents took to social media to share their frustration:

  • Simeon Ogoebulem (Facebook User): “Today marks the fifth day my daughter has been battling to register for the UTME. The process is chaotic, and security personnel are more interested in making money from desperate candidates.”
  • Phreety Mrs (X User): “In Calabar, my daughters have to leave home by 3 AM just to join the queue at the JAMB office. They are also expected to pay ₦5,000 before being attended to.”
  • Ezra Kachi (X User): “The LASU CBT centre is corrupt! They left students outside in the sun simply because they couldn’t bribe their way in.”

In Kano, Lagos, Abia, and Abuja, reports indicate that many students have spent multiple days at CBT centres without being able to register due to limited slots, slow registration processes, and poor network connectivity.

JAMB’s Response to Complaints

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, acknowledged the complaints but reassured candidates that registration is progressing smoothly and urged patience.

“We have registered 782,027 candidates so far. If some candidates claim they haven’t registered, who are we registering? Our registration has not even reached one week. Any candidate that desires to register for the exam will get registered. They should be patient.”

JAMB also emphasized that the registration process is not school-based and warned CBT centres against fraudulent practices, stating that centres found guilty of extortion or misconduct will be blacklisted.

JAMB Warns Against Nighttime Registrations and Illegal Charges

Amid growing concerns over security risks, JAMB has warned against nocturnal (nighttime) registrations, emphasizing that all CBT centres must stop such practices immediately.

The board also reiterated that registration should not require extra payments beyond the approved fees, and any centre charging illegal fees will face sanctions.

Way Forward for Candidates

With registration still ongoing until March 3, 2025, candidates experiencing delays are advised to:

  • Visit alternative CBT centres where slots are available.
  • Ensure they generate their profile codes early to avoid last-minute congestion.
  • Report any fraudulent CBT centres to JAMB through its official channels.

While challenges persist, JAMB has assured that every eligible candidate will be able to register before the deadline, urging students and parents to remain patient and avoid panic.
