As part of preparations for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed that 200,115 candidates have registered for the optional mock exam, scheduled for April 5, 2025.
Additionally, 630 candidates have signed up for the trial mock examination, which will take place on the same date.
With thousands of students preparing for the UTME, the mock exam offers a valuable opportunity to practice under real exam conditions.
Why Candidates Are Taking the JAMB Mock Exam
The mock UTME is an optional test designed to help candidates:
- Familiarize themselves with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format.
- Reduce exam tension by experiencing a real JAMB examination setting.
- Identify their strengths and weaknesses before the main exam.
- Test their speed and accuracy under timed conditions.
For many students, the mock UTME serves as a confidence booster, giving them a chance to assess their level of preparedness.
Differences Between the JAMB Mock and the Main UTME
While the mock exam is structured exactly like the main UTME, there are key differences:
- It is not compulsory – Candidates decide whether to take it or not.
- Scores from the mock exam do not count – It is purely for practice.
- It helps candidates prepare for the real UTME experience, but the main UTME will determine admission chances.
Trial Mock Exam: Why Only 630 Candidates Registered
In addition to the main mock exam, 630 candidates registered for the trial mock. Unlike the general mock UTME, the trial mock is meant for:
- Candidates who may need extra assistance navigating the CBT system.
- Those who want an additional practice session before the main exam.
- Candidates testing the effectiveness of accessibility tools for special needs students.
The lower registration numbers for the trial mock suggest that most candidates are more focused on the standard mock exam.
What Mock Candidates Should Expect on Exam Day
Candidates sitting for the mock UTME should:
- Arrive early at their designated centers to avoid last-minute stress.
- Bring their JAMB registration slip and other required documents.
- Follow JAMB’s examination guidelines and avoid malpractice.
- Use the experience to assess their weaknesses and improve before the main UTME.
Main UTME Begins April 25 – Time to Prepare
With the main UTME set to begin on April 25, 2025, JAMB has urged candidates to take the mock exam seriously and use it as a learning opportunity.
For those who did not register for the mock, there is still time to intensify their preparation using past questions and CBT practice platforms.
The UTME is a major step toward gaining admission, and candidates are encouraged to stay focused, disciplined, and fully prepared for the journey ahead.
