JAMB 2025: NANS Condemns Early Morning UTME Schedule, Demands Urgent Review

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly condemned the scheduling of the ongoing 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), describing the early morning exam times as dangerous and inconsiderate.

NANS criticized the practice of scheduling candidates for exams as early as 6:30 a.m., especially at a time when security challenges across the country put students at serious risk.

Students Forced to Travel in Unsafe Conditions

In a statement jointly signed by the NANS National President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, and the National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Samson Ajasa Adeyemi, the student body expressed deep concern over:

  • Students having to travel in the dark.
  • Facing dangerous and unfamiliar routes just to sit for their exams.
  • Transportation difficulties that worsen in the early hours of the morning.

NANS described the situation as reckless planning that exposes young Nigerians to unnecessary trauma and possible harm.

NANS Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum to JAMB

The association has now issued a 72-hour ultimatum to JAMB to:

  • Review the UTME schedule.
  • Ensure no examination starts before 9:00 a.m., giving candidates safer travel hours.

They also called on the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, to immediately intervene to protect the welfare and security of Nigerian students.

“The welfare and security of Nigerian students must never be compromised,” NANS emphasized.

Threat of Nationwide Protest

Should JAMB fail to adjust the schedule within the given time:

  • NANS has vowed to mobilize students nationwide for peaceful protests.
  • They insist they will not sit idly while students are put in harm’s way for an examination.

No Official Response from JAMB Yet

As of today, Monday, 28th April 2025, JAMB has not yet issued an official response to NANS’ demands.
Candidates and parents are advised to stay alert and follow official channels for any updates regarding possible changes to the UTME timetable.

Final Words

The call from NANS highlights growing national concern over the safety of candidates writing the 2025 UTME.
With tensions rising, the coming days will show whether JAMB will make urgent adjustments to the examination schedule or stick to its current structure.

For now, candidates are encouraged to stay safe, travel early with caution, and prepare well for their remaining papers.
