JAMB Admission Ban Won’t Affect You, KWASU Assures Law Students

The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has reassured its law students that the recent one-year ban on admission into its law programme will not affect those currently enrolled in the Faculty of Law.

This clarification was made by the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, in a statement released on Thursday in Ilorin. According to Aliyu, the ban resulted from the decision of the Council for Legal Education (CLE) to sanction KWASU for initiating its law programme in 2018 without prior approval from the CLE, despite having the necessary accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Aliyu emphasized that KWASU holds full accreditation from both the NUC and CLE to offer two undergraduate law degrees: Common Law and Common and Islamic Law.

“Management wishes to state that the one-year ban does not in any way affect students currently running their programmes in the University’s Faculty of Law,” Aliyu stated.

KWASU reaffirmed its commitment to complying with all regulatory requirements, confirming that it will not admit new students into its law programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. However, prospective candidates are encouraged to consider other accredited programmes offered by the institution.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Wednesday that it will not process admissions for the Law programme at KWASU and seven other universities for the 2025/2026 session. This follows the CLE’s suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme at these institutions.

Consequently, JAMB confirmed that no admissions will be approved for candidates intending to enroll in the Law programme at the affected universities in the upcoming academic session.
