JAMB Announces January Start for 2025 UTME Registrations

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence in January, though an exact date is yet to be announced. The announcement was made in the Board’s Monday Bulletin, obtained in Abuja, where JAMB expressed its readiness for what it expects to be a significant registration turnout.

JAMB revealed that it has concluded all necessary preparations to ensure a seamless registration and examination experience for candidates. These preparations include generating a sufficient pool of examination items, accrediting Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers, and refining the registration process, result management, and other critical processes involved in conducting the UTME.

In its statement, JAMB emphasized its commitment to conducting an exceptional UTME in 2025. The Board noted that insights gained from the 2024 examination review have been integrated into the planning for 2025, with robust measures established to address the few challenges encountered in the previous exercise.

To facilitate an improved registration experience, JAMB encouraged candidates to begin preparations early. Prospective candidates are required to create their JAMB profiles ahead of time by sending a text message: NIN (space) followed by their 11-digit NIN number to 55019. This proactive step is aimed at preventing delays during the official registration period.

JAMB also reiterated its advisory regarding the use of henna, also known as ‘Laali’ or ‘Lale’, warning candidates against applying it on their fingers. According to the Board, henna designs can obstruct biometric verification, which is mandatory for both registration and examination entry. Candidates attempting to remove henna using harsh chemicals risk damaging their finger whorls, further complicating the verification process.

Successful biometric verification remains a mandatory requirement for candidates to access their examination questions. JAMB strongly advised all candidates to protect their ten fingers throughout the registration and examination periods, ensuring they avoid substances or actions that might interfere with fingerprint scanning.

The Board concluded by reaffirming its dedication to delivering a transparent, fair, and efficient examination process in 2025. Candidates and stakeholders are urged to comply with all provided guidelines to ensure a smooth registration and examination experience.
