JAMB Clarifies Date of Birth Correction Issue After Candidate’s Complaint Goes Viral

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) recently addressed a candidate’s complaint regarding a long-pending correction of date of birth on their profile. The exchange, which took place on X (formerly Twitter), quickly went viral, drawing attention to the challenges faced by candidates attempting to correct errors on their JAMB profiles.

The candidate, identified as @W05052121Wisdom, publicly expressed frustration on January 4, 2025, over the prolonged delay in processing his request. In his post, he wrote:

“I done correction of date of birth since 2023 till date nothing is done about it.”

In response, JAMB via its official handle, @JAMBHQ, clarified the issue, stating:

“Wisdom, that’s because you can’t change date of birth after registration, especially when the same date is found linked to your document(s) somewhere else.”

The response highlighted the strict policies governing data consistency and authenticity in JAMB records. The Board explained that any discrepancies between candidates’ submitted data and existing official records often result in unsuccessful correction attempts.

This interaction sparked a wave of reactions online, with many users sharing similar experiences and calling for more streamlined processes to handle such corrections effectively.

The issue underscores the importance of ensuring accuracy during the initial registration process and maintaining consistency across all official documents linked to candidates’ profiles.

JAMB has consistently emphasized that corrections on key personal data, such as date of birth, are heavily restricted post-registration to prevent fraud, impersonation, and document falsification.

While some candidates supported JAMB’s stance, others expressed hope for a more flexible and efficient resolution system for legitimate correction requests.

As the conversation continues online, JAMB reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of its examination and admission processes, urging candidates to verify all personal information thoroughly during the registration phase to avoid complications later.

  1. So can the correction be made for those who have done jamb in the previous year but there’s a mistake on their profile and they want to change it before registration.
