JAMB Reveals How Candidates Performed in 2025 UTME — See the Numbers

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the official performance statistics for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), shedding light on how over 1.9 million candidates fared in this year’s examination.

Overall Performance Breakdown

Out of the 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the 2025 UTME, the distribution of scores is as follows:

  • Scores of 300 and above: 12,414 candidates (0.63%)
  • Scores between 250 and 299: 73,441 candidates (3.76%)
  • Scores between 200 and 249: 334,560 candidates (17.11%)
  • Scores between 160 and 199: 983,187 candidates (50.29%)
  • Scores between 140 and 159: 488,197 candidates (24.97%)
  • Scores between 120 and 139: 57,419 candidates (2.94%)
  • Scores between 100 and 119: 3,820 candidates (0.20%)
  • Scores below 100: 2,031 candidates (0.10%)

This data indicates that the majority of candidates scored between 160 and 199, with a significant number also falling within the 140 to 159 range. Only a small fraction achieved scores of 300 and above.

Underage Candidates’ Performance

JAMB permitted 40,247 underage candidates to take the 2025 UTME, allowing them to demonstrate exceptional academic abilities. However, only 467 of these candidates (1.16%) achieved scores that meet the threshold for exceptional ability as defined for the UTME. Their performance in subsequent evaluation stages is still pending.

Examination Infractions and Investigations

The board reported that 97 candidates were involved in examination infractions. Additionally, 2,157 candidates are currently under investigation for suspected malpractices. These cases are being thoroughly reviewed to uphold the integrity of the examination process.

Biometric Challenges and Absentees

A total of 71,701 candidates were absent from the examination. Those who faced biometric verification challenges are also under investigation. Candidates who are cleared will be rescheduled for examination at designated centres.

Pending Results

Some results, including those of blind candidates and others in the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), are still being processed. JAMB is committed to ensuring that all candidates receive their results as soon as possible.

JAMB has announced plans to hold a press conference later this week to:

  • Announce the individual results of candidates.
