According to Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, the affected universities will not be allowed to admit new students into their law faculties for the 2025/2026 academic session, as they failed to meet the required regulatory standards for operating Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programmes.

List of Affected Universities

  1. Kwara State University, Malete
  2. Bingham University, Karu
  3. Redeemers University, Ede
  4. Western Delta University, Oghara
  5. Taraba State University, Jalingo
  6. Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo
  7. Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike
  8. Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil

Why the Suspension?

The Council of Legal Education (CLE), the body responsible for overseeing legal education in Nigeria, flagged these institutions for non-compliance with regulatory guidelines. As a result, JAMB will not process admissions for law candidates applying to these universities for the upcoming academic year.

Among these institutions, the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, faces an extended suspension covering two academic sessions (2025/2026 and 2026/2027) due to more severe regulatory concerns.

Impact on Prospective Law Students

  • Candidates seeking admission into law programmes at these institutions will have to consider alternative universities that meet CLE standards.
  • Current students in these universities may face uncertainty regarding their legal education, depending on the institutions’ response to the CLE’s directives.
  • The decision serves as a reminder to universities about the importance of adhering to accreditation guidelines, particularly in professional fields such as law.

As the 2025/2026 academic session approaches, affected students are advised to explore other accredited law faculties in Nigeria or wait for further updates from their universities regarding possible regulatory adjustments.

The suspension underscores the importance of maintaining high educational standards in Nigeria’s legal education sector, ensuring that students receive quality training that meets national and international standards.
