JAMB Warns Tertiary Institutions Against Bypassing CAPS for Admissions

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has issued a stern warning to tertiary institutions in Nigeria, stating that any admission granted outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is invalid.

Speaking during the matriculation ceremony of Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM) in Mowe, Ogun State, the JAMB Registrar emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to CAPS in processing admissions. He was represented at the event by the Ogun State JAMB Coordinator, Abdulhakeem Abdulhakeem.

“Any admission that is not through CAPS is invalid. JAMB will not give credit to those who do not deserve it. We will expose institutions not doing the right thing,” Oloyede said. He confirmed that RECTEM’s admissions were properly processed, analyzed, and approved via CAPS.

CAPS was introduced by JAMB to automate and streamline the admission process in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, ensuring transparency and accountability while preserving institutional autonomy.

The ceremony saw the matriculation of 212 students into National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes across RECTEM’s four schools: Engineering Technology, Environmental Studies, Management Studies, and Science and Technology.

RECTEM Rector, Dr. Stella Mofunanya, reassured parents and students of the institution’s commitment to delivering high-quality education blended with spiritual and character development. “We are committed to providing you with a holistic education that combines academic excellence with spiritual growth,” she stated.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje, represented by Ayo Aroge, urged students to focus on acquiring practical skills rather than relying solely on certificates.

“The curriculum has been tailored to equip you to be self-sustained. Don’t expect anyone to employ you after graduation—employ yourself,” he advised.

Bugaje commended RECTEM for holding its seventh consecutive matriculation without disruption.
