JUST IN: JAMB Remits N6bn to FG Coffers After Conduct of 2024 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the remittance of over N6 billion to the federal government coffers as part of its operating surplus after the successful conduct of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement released in its Monday Bulletin, the Board disclosed that it has contributed over N50 billion as operating surplus to the national treasury over the past seven years under the leadership of its Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.

According to details shared by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Public Communication Advisor for JAMB, the Board generated a total income of N22,996,653,265.25 in 2024. From this, N18,198,739,362.68 was spent on conducting the UTME, payments to service providers, and covering essential operational costs, including staff claims totaling N2,119,571,022.88.

JAMB described 2024 as a pivotal year, marking the successful implementation of several innovations aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and financial accountability. The Board emphasized that it has consistently provided weekly income and expenditure reports for public scrutiny since 2017, reinforcing its dedication to openness and accountability.

The Board further revealed that the 2024 remittance of N6,034,605,510.69 reflects its financial prudence. Additionally, when considering the N1,500 reduction per application form, multiplied by the number of candidates who benefited, the total remittance for the year amounts to N9,013,068,510.69.

Upon assuming office, Prof. Oloyede’s administration prioritized financial responsibility, introducing measures to reduce the cost of application documents while maintaining significant contributions to the national treasury. This initiative has continued under his leadership, with remittances surpassing expectations year after year.

Looking ahead to 2025, JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, transparency, and equity in all financial dealings. The Board assured stakeholders that it will continue to focus on fairness and integrity in its core mandate: managing admission processes into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The Board also highlighted the significant reforms implemented under Prof. Oloyede’s leadership. These reforms have not only improved service delivery but have also earned JAMB national and international recognition.

At a roundtable organized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in January 2024, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, commended JAMB for its exemplary leadership and prudent management of resources. The President specifically acknowledged Prof. Oloyede’s contributions to improving transparency and financial discipline within the organization.

In a separate recognition, the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) rated JAMB highly on its Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) performance index. During an official visit to JAMB’s National Headquarters in Abuja on March 19, 2024, BPSR Director-General Dr. Dasuki Arabi praised the Board for its commitment to efficient service delivery and acknowledged Prof. Oloyede’s visionary leadership.

Furthermore, JAMB was tasked by the government with combating fake degrees and certificates in Nigeria. In April 2024, JAMB formalized a partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to safeguard the integrity of tertiary education certificates and prevent fraudulent candidates from participating in the NYSC scheme.

JAMB’s continued success in financial transparency, operational efficiency, and innovation remains a model for other government agencies. The Board reiterated its dedication to maintaining these standards as it prepares for the 2025 UTME registration and examination cycle.
