The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released new statistics from the just-concluded 2025 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing that a significant number of candidates were absent and some failed biometric verification.
“Of those registered, 73,844 candidates were absent on the day of the examination, and 88 candidates failed the biometric verification screening,” JAMB stated.
The total number of candidates who registered for the mock exam was 200,113, but only 126,181 were able to sit for the exam successfully.
The 88 candidates who failed the biometric process were not allowed to write, as part of JAMB’s strict rules to prevent impersonation and other forms of exam malpractice. The Board has repeatedly emphasized that biometric verification is mandatory for all candidates.
What This Means for Candidates
The large number of absentees raises questions about preparation, centre challenges, or lack of awareness. Meanwhile, the biometric failures serve as a reminder that candidates must ensure their fingerprint data is correctly captured during registration and that they appear in person at the exam venue.
JAMB continues to advise candidates to take the mock seriously and use it as a chance to prepare for the main UTME, which starts on April 25, 2025.
