UTME 2025: Registration Begins Amid Network Challenges, Leaving Candidates Stranded

The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration commenced on Monday, but network challenges at various Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers left many candidates stranded and frustrated.

At Zulquid Consult Limited, a CBT center located at Government Secondary School (GSS) Lugbe, close to 100 candidates were unable to complete their registration due to persistent network issues. Around 2 p.m., an official at the center informed candidates that registration could not proceed and advised them to return the following day.

Network Issues Blamed on JAMB

According to an official, Ezekiel Feranmi, the network failure originated from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), affecting multiple CBT centers nationwide.

“There is a down network generally from JAMB, which will be updated very soon,” Feranmi explained. “We are unable to register any candidate for now, but they are being given forms to fill to avoid mistakes when the registration resumes.”

However, JAMB Spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, refuted claims of a widespread network failure, stating that over 1,000 candidates had already registered on the first day. He assured that the technical team was investigating complaints from affected centers.

Candidates Share Their Experiences

Many candidates expressed frustration over the delays. Najib Yusuf, who arrived at 7 a.m., was issued serial number 26 but could not register. Similarly, Anichisom Destiny, who arrived by 9 a.m., reported that while PIN payments had started, biometric capture had yet to commence.

“I chose this center because it is close to my home,” Destiny said. “They told us to wait, but we have been here for hours with no progress.”

At Aunty Alice International School, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, some candidates were able to generate their profile codes but had to wait for biometric capture. Solomon Emmanuel, 17, shared that he successfully obtained his profile code but was waiting for further processing.

Meanwhile, at Kada Model ICT Center, Area 1, Masaka, candidates praised the smooth and efficient registration process, reporting no significant network disruptions.
