According to official figures, 2,030,627 candidates registered to participate in this year’s UTME, which began yesterday, April 24. Among the total, over 41,000 candidates are under the age of 16.

How Day One Went

Reports from various centres showed mixed experiences:

  • Some CBT centres began promptly and ran smoothly
  • A few centres experienced delays due to network or technical challenges
  • Despite minor hitches, JAMB officials said the majority of candidates were able to write their papers without issues

JAMB has not yet released an official statement summarizing Day 1 performance but emphasized that technical teams are on ground to manage and resolve issues swiftly.

NSCDC and Security Deployment Continues

In states like Anambra, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) continues to maintain strict security across all accredited CBT centres. Officers are on duty as early as 6:00 a.m., screening candidates and ensuring prohibited items are not smuggled into exam halls.

State Commandants, including Olatunde Maku of Anambra, reiterated the importance of professionalism and vigilance in upholding the integrity of the exam.

No Sanitation Day in Some States

To ease movement for UTME candidates:

  • Kano and Enugu States have suspended their April monthly sanitation exercises
  • This ensures uninterrupted access to CBT centres, especially for candidates writing on Saturday, April 26

Ongoing Instructions to Candidates

Candidates are still advised to:

  • Print and go with their UTME slips
  • Arrive at least 1 hour before their scheduled time
  • Avoid bringing banned items, including mobile phones, wristwatches, and calculators
  • Report early to avoid being locked out

JAMB has made it clear that no candidate will be allowed into the hall once the biometric verification has closed for that session.
