A JAMB 2025 candidate, Saviour Ime Essien, has shared a frustrating but sadly common experience during this year’s UTME — dealing with long delays despite arriving early.
“Imagine 6:30 exam, I rushed so I don’t miss it and I didn’t even eat. But 6:30 exam is 8:00 exam,” he said, mixing frustration with a little humor.
Saviour’s story shows the unseen struggles many candidates go through just to keep to time, only to be disappointed at the exam centre.

Rushing Early, Only to Wait for Hours
According to Saviour:
- He woke up early and rushed to his exam centre to beat traffic and avoid lateness.
- He even skipped eating, fearing he might miss the 6:30AM session.
- Sadly, despite all his efforts, the exam didn’t start until around 8:00AM, nearly two hours late.
Such delays can leave candidates hungry, tired, stressed, and distracted even before the exam begins.
How These Delays Affect Candidates
- Low energy levels from skipping food can affect thinking and performance.
- Increased anxiety from unnecessary waiting drains mental focus.
- Unfair stress is placed on candidates who planned properly but are let down by poor centre coordination.
No candidate deserves to go through such avoidable stress, especially on such an important day.

A Call for Better Organization
Saviour’s experience shows why JAMB and CBT centres must:
- Organize exams more strictly according to schedule.
- Communicate properly with candidates when unavoidable delays occur.
- Ensure candidates’ welfare by minimizing waiting times.
Better planning can help candidates perform at their very best.
