The group argues that this gesture would help alleviate the economic challenges faced by parents amid the current financial hardship in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Lawal Hussein Taiye, the group highlighted the rising number of candidates expected to register for the 2025 UTME. Last year, around 1.8 million students registered for the examination, and the group estimates that this year, the figure may reach two million.

Hussein noted that with the registration fee set at approximately ₦7,000 per candidate, the federal government would need to allocate about ₦14 billion to cover the costs for all applicants nationwide. He argued that such an initiative would provide significant relief to parents and enable students from less privileged homes to participate in the examination.

“This will assist the parents and the less privileged students register for the examination in view of the present hardship many homes are going through in the country,” Hussein stated.

Concerns Over Conditional Cash Transfer

Hussein also criticized the federal government’s alleged ₦75,000 conditional cash transfer, claiming it might not reach the intended beneficiaries. He urged the government to adopt a more effective and transparent digital system for disbursing funds to ensure that aid reaches those who truly need it.

“Paying JAMB examination fees for students this year will go a long way to enable many homes that cannot afford to register their students the opportunity to do so,” he added.

Lagos State to Build More JAMB CBT Centres, Says Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure by announcing plans to establish additional Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) across the state.

The Governor made this announcement during a courtesy visit by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, at the Lagos House in Ikeja. Sanwo-Olu disclosed that sizable plots of land in Ojo, FESTAC, Ikorodu, and Mile 12 would be allocated for the construction of new CBT centres. Sacked JAMB Deputy Director Vows to Expose Corruption Amid Legal Battle

A former deputy director of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mr. Yisa Usman, has declared his unwavering determination to expose alleged corruption within the board, despite facing threats and intimidation. Usman made this statement while testifying before Justice Osatohanmwen Obaseki-Osaghae of the National Industrial Court in Abuja during the hearing of his suit against JAMB over his dismissal.

During his cross-examination as the sole witness in the case, Usman admitted to writing several petitions to various government agencies and investigative bodies, including the National Assembly, alleging corruption and financial irregularities under the leadership of the current JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.

Usman, who is challenging his dismissal, revealed that he received queries from JAMB and an invitation to appear before a disciplinary committee before his termination. He claimed to have responded to the queries and wrote a protest letter challenging the composition of the disciplinary committee.

“This new development only renews my determination to continue with my quest for justice and my fight against the corrupt practices that characterize our organization in the past six to seven years. These practices, as I stated in the letter, are perpetrated under the cover of the remittances made to the government.”

The former deputy director also noted his dissatisfaction with being summoned to a disciplinary committee while his contemporaries were invited to promotional examinations for higher positions. He emphasized that he was not deterred by the development and remained steadfast in his fight against corruption, stating, “The fight against corruption and abuse of authority is the responsibility of every Nigerian. The law will take its course, no matter how long it takes.”

Usman admitted that he submitted his responses to the query both in hard copy to his immediate superior and via email to other directors. He explained that the email was meant to communicate his position and ensure all members of management were informed of the situation.
