A candidate, Mac David, has raised a common concern among students writing the UTME:
“What happens if you finish before the 2 hours elapses? Do you wait until the time finishes or will you be allowed to go out?”
Many candidates often finish their exam before the full 2-hour duration and wonder what the next step is.

What Happens If You Finish Early?
If you complete your exam before the time ends, you are allowed to submit and leave the CBT hall — but under certain conditions:
- Once you click the “Submit” button, your exam ends immediately, and your answers are sent to the JAMB server.
- After submission, the invigilator or supervisor will check your system, and once confirmed, you’ll be permitted to leave quietly.
- You don’t have to wait for the 2-hour timer to count down, but you must be sure you’re ready before submitting because you won’t be able to go back once it’s done.
Should You Leave Early If You Finish?
It depends. If you’ve answered all questions and carefully cross-checked, it’s okay to submit and leave. But if you still have time, it’s often better to:
- Recheck your answers
- Correct any mistakes
- Make sure you didn’t skip any question by accident
Remember, once you submit, there’s no second chance.
