JAMB Warns Against Misinformation, Offers Financial Reward for Proof of Wrong Posting Outside Chosen Exam Town

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strong warning against false claims that candidates are being posted to exam centres outside the towns they selected during registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement signed by the Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board emphasized that candidates are always assigned centres within their chosen towns, and that any contrary reports are false, malicious, and aimed at tarnishing JAMB’s reputation.

JAMB’s Clear Stand on Exam Towns

According to JAMB:

  • At the time of UTME registration, candidates are allowed to choose their preferred examination town.
  • JAMB only assigns centres within that selected town, never outside it.
  • The persistent claims that candidates are sent to towns they didn’t choose are described as baseless and deceitful.

The Board suspects that some students and secondary school proprietors are behind the spread of this falsehood, often to cover their own errors or to deceive parents.

Financial Reward Offered for Authentic Proof

To put an end to the misinformation once and for all, JAMB announced a bold challenge:

  • A financial reward will be given to anyone who can provide genuine proof of a candidate being posted outside their chosen town.
  • Proof must be submitted within 96 hours to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) via WhatsApp at 08056003030.
  • The FCCPC will act as an independent umpire to determine the authenticity of any claims.

This move is aimed at promoting transparency and holding all parties accountable.

Arrival Time Clarification

JAMB also addressed another common complaint about early arrival times at CBT centres:

  • Candidates are advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before their exam time to complete necessary verification processes.
  • JAMB compared this to airlines asking passengers to arrive two hours before flight departure, urging the public to see early arrival as a normal and important process, not an inconvenience.

The Board stressed that parents expecting candidates to simply walk in and start writing without proper checks do not understand the importance of the required preliminary procedures.

A Word Against Superstition

In a lighter but serious note, JAMB shared a shocking incident involving a female UTME candidate:

  • The candidate refused to answer any question during her exam, claiming she was obeying her grandfather’s advice to “wait for miraculous intervention” instead of writing.
  • JAMB firmly advised candidates against superstitious beliefs and unrealistic expectations, reminding them that success in UTME comes only through proper preparation and hard work.

Final Words

JAMB has made its position clear:

  • No candidate is posted outside their selected exam town.
  • Misinformation must stop, and those who doubt are challenged to provide proof.
  • Hard work, preparation, and trust in the system remain the true paths to success.

The Board reassures the public that it remains committed to fairness, transparency, and the public good at all times.

A trial, as JAMB put it, will convince anyone.
