According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the crash happened on the Oyo-Ogbomoso road early Saturday morning, April 26, 2025. It involved a commercial vehicle transporting students to a JAMB exam center in Ogbomoso. The vehicle reportedly suffered a brake failure, leading to the fatal crash.

“Fatal accident claimed the lives of the students that were going to write JAMB in Ogbomoso on Oyo road, Oyo State,” a caption from a video clip of the scene read.

Ongoing JAMB 2025 Exercise Faces Challenges

While the UTME continues nationwide, JAMB has been battling other issues as well.
The board announced the arrest of 27 impersonators during the ongoing UTME. These individuals were handed over to the Nigerian police for immediate prosecution.

In addition to that, four CBT centers were delisted by JAMB for failing to meet the required technical standards for conducting the UTME. The affected centres include:

  • Saadatu Rimi College of Education, Zaria Road, Naibawa, Kano, Kano State.
  • Penta M & F Technical Services Ltd, Centre 1 and Centre 2, located at 96km Sokoto-Jega Road, Tambuwal.

JAMB commended the 883 centers that have performed exceptionally well but warned that any centre, regardless of ownership, would be blacklisted if they fail to meet ethical or technical standards.

“Candidates who were previously scheduled to take their exams at the delisted centres are urged to urgently reprint their examination notification slips to access their new centres and rescheduled dates,” JAMB said in a statement by its spokesman, Fabian Benjamin.

As of Friday, 25th April, 2025, JAMB revealed that over 900,000 candidates had successfully completed their UTME out of the 2,083,600 candidates registered for the 2025 examination.
