Breaking: JAMB Releases 2025 UTME Results

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), marking the end of a highly anticipated wait for nearly 2 million candidates across Nigeria.

The announcement was made on Friday morning, May 9, 2025, during a press briefing at JAMB’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

Over 1.5 Million Candidates Score Below 200

According to official statistics released by JAMB, a total of 1,955,569 candidates sat for the 2025 UTME. However, more than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200, raising fresh concerns over the declining performance trend in national examinations.

Only 420,415 candidates (21.5%) scored 200 and above, which is typically the minimum cut-off score required by most universities in Nigeria.

Further breakdown of the scores shows:

  • 4,756 candidates scored 320 and above
  • 7,658 candidates scored between 300–319
  • 73,441 candidates scored between 250–299
  • 334,560 candidates scored between 200–249
  • 983,187 candidates scored between 160–199
  • 488,197 candidates scored between 140–159

Underage Candidates and Malpractice Investigations

This year, JAMB allowed 40,247 underage candidates (under the age of 16) to participate in the exam to test their capabilities, although they are not yet eligible for admission. Out of this number, only 467 candidates (1.16%) met the exceptional performance threshold.

Additionally, 97 candidates have had their results withheld due to confirmed exam infractions, while 2,157 others are currently being investigated for alleged malpractice.

How to Check the 2025 UTME Results

JAMB has made it easy for candidates to check their results through two methods:

1. Via SMS

  • Send “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019
  • Must be sent from the phone number used for JAMB registration

2. Via JAMB Portal

  • Visit: https://www.jamb.gov.ng
  • Click on “Check UTME Results”
  • Enter your JAMB registration number or registered phone number
  • Click on “Check My Result”

Results should be available immediately unless the candidate is under investigation.

What’s Next?

Candidates who meet the required cut-off for their chosen institutions will now proceed to the next stage, which may include post-UTME screening, physical verification, or direct admissions via CAPS (Central Admissions Processing System).

Education stakeholders have already begun weighing in on the performance trends, with many linking the mass failure to systemic issues in the country’s education system — including lack of adequate preparation, poor infrastructure, and insufficient teacher training.
