UTME 2025: Candidates Threaten to Sue JAMB Over Alleged Technical Glitches and Mass Failure

Tension is rising among 2025 UTME candidates as many express frustration and anger over what they describe as “unfair failure” caused by technical glitches during the examination. Following the release of the 2025 UTME results, some affected candidates are now considering legal action against the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

According to a report by Punch Newspapers, several candidates claimed that they faced serious technical challenges during the exam—ranging from system malfunctions and login errors to abrupt disconnections during the test. These issues, they argue, directly affected their performance and led to unusually low scores.

One candidate shared, “I couldn’t even log in until 30 minutes had passed, and when the system finally opened, it kept freezing. Before I could answer enough questions, the session ended.”

The release of the 2025 UTME results sparked widespread disappointment, with over 1.5 million candidates scoring below 200 out of 400. The sheer scale of low scores has triggered outrage among students, parents, and educational stakeholders—especially in states where complaints appear to be more concentrated.

In response to the growing backlash, JAMB issued an official statement acknowledging the unusual complaints and confirming that it has fast-tracked its annual review of the examination process. The Board assured the public that it is thoroughly investigating the matter and will not hesitate to take corrective action if systemic errors are confirmed.

To ensure transparency and credibility, JAMB has brought in external experts to assist in the review. These include members of the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, vice chancellors of universities, measurement experts, and other respected education professionals.

JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, stated:

“We are particularly concerned about the unusual complaints from a few states within the Federation. If it is determined that there were indeed glitches, we will implement appropriate remedial measures promptly, just as we do in the case of the examinations themselves.”

Despite these assurances, the possibility of legal action is still on the table for many aggrieved candidates. Legal experts suggest that if it can be proven that technical issues beyond the candidates’ control affected their scores, there may be grounds for seeking redress.

Meanwhile, calls are growing for JAMB to introduce a more transparent re-evaluation process or even offer rescheduled exams for affected students. Many believe that this is the only way to restore confidence in the UTME system and ensure that no candidate is unfairly denied admission due to technical failures.

As developments unfold, students, parents, and institutions nationwide are closely watching JAMB’s next steps.
